THE PROCESS

"Guatemalan Sun God"

This is work in process for this particular piece, “The Sun God” a Guatemalan archeological founding. The original is made of solid gold.   I began by drawing the piece in a sheet of metal, I then embossed all the details on the metal. I worked on the rays separated from the face  for two reasons the metal is very soft and easy to be damaged.  The piece was large and I wanted to give it a dimensional look, which I could only achieved by working one piece at a time. Once all the details of the rays were completed, I cut every single ray with a sharp blade.

I connected both pieces and put in the filling, which causes the metal to become rigid and stable.  Once it dried off it became ready for the painting. In this picture I just began the staining process.  I used a special type of patinas that allow the metal to shine through,  this particular patina was gold and it gave the appearance of a solid gold piece.

Guatemalan "SUN GOD"I have completed the work on this piece, now it can be set on my mat and get it ready for framing.

" SUN GOD "

Completed work, it is now matted and framed, ready to be hang for display.

I hope you have enjoyed the process of how I arrived to the final destination of my art.

Thanks for watching

Both striking and mysteriously compelling as it reminds me of the art of an ancient culture. If this piece wew in a museum, I would pause and bathe in its beauty,
